This service commenced in late 2003, utilising set-up funding from the Department of Health and some operational funding from the Health Service Executive. This funding is on-going and is supplemented by donations, fundraising and Corporate support.

The mission of Friendly Call is to develop, deliver and oversee the provision of a professional, quality, friendly, confidential, good neighbour and health care service, offering a range of health and social support to Older People and to all Adults who may feel vulnerable or Alone.

In delivering its service, through the medium of voice over IP technology, Friendly Call receives Client referrals from Primary Care Agents; Public Health Nurses, Home Care Services (both public and private), Social Officers, Local GP, An Garda Siochana, Community Care Projects, Concerned Family members and Self Referral.

At this time, the service provides support to 1300 Clients living in Greater Dublin, on each week-day between the hours of 9-00am and 4-30pm. This Client base is supplemented by a further 600 Clients through our associated services in North Kerry, West Cork, Limerick, South Tipperary, Leitrim, Roscommon and Wicklow.

Support is provided, targeting a wide range of issues pertaining but mostly related to isolation, loneleness, general well-being, health and social care.

The service presently employs 20 Telecare Operators and 2 Connected Health Operators, all have completed a comprehensive programme of training over an initial two month period. Day to Day management of the service comes through a full time Manager and Administrator, giving a present staff complement of 24. Each staff member must comply with a number of comprehensive best business policies including a contract of confidentiality and hold full Garda security clearance.

Governance of the Service comes through hands on involvement by our Trustees and our 8 member Board of Directors; implementation comes through our full time, Area Manager and Administrator.
